If you do business in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Culver City, San Francisco, or any number of other cities throughout California, you have yet another tax return to file – your city tax return.

Even if you’re a small (less than $100,000 gross revenue) business, it pays to file a city return. Why? Because certain municipalities – Los Angeles, for example – exempt such businesses from tax, but only if they timely file a tax return.

Audits by a city are often challenging and difficult. For example, there is very little guidance for individuals being audited by the City of Los Angeles, which works in the City’s favor.
