Surprisingly, according to representatives from the EDD, it’s not as likely (though it is possible) that your return was selected for audit as it is that some other factor contributed to your selection. What factor or factors could cause you to be audited by the EDD? Well, there are two primary sources of audits:

1. A former worker, whom you had classified as an independent contractor, files for unemployment.

2. Someone calls the EDD and notifies them of possible misclassifications.
